If you have an invisible health challenge, not listening to your body is likely costing you time, money, and joy. Pushing through and ignoring your symptoms, pretending like they do not exist – because you’re stronger than that – is misguided at best.
It takes courage to acknowledge that a health challenge is impacting your life. This is where your strength, your power is. Not in pushing through like an unsung hero. Not in pretending everything is fine.
No, your power lies in accepting where you are right now – this is the vantage point from which you have the capacity to make changes that support your well-being and your business in a much healthier way.
It was in this ACCEPTANCE of my health challenges that I stopped the cycle of literally growing and shutting down my business three times in the first five years of my entrepreneurial journey. It was this ACCEPTANCE that led to a lifestyle and business that has permitted my body to heal in some ways and for me to manage that which still needs to be managed.
Pushing through will NEVER get you where you want to go. So what can you do? You can slow down and listen.
Our bodies are constantly speaking to us.
Sometimes through subtle signals…
… and sometimes with an abrupt, in-your-face, billboard!
The goal is to catch the subtle signals & prevent the abrupt episodes.
Listening to signals from your body requires collecting little pieces of data. And then making a wise decision for your health.
When you are managing & growing a business while managing & coping with a health challenge, it is 100% vital that you know how to hear when your body speaks to you. If you ignore the signals from your body, the results could be catastrophic. They were for me. Not listening cost me my business early on, resulted in further health challenges, and impacted my relationships.
Listening to Your Body’s Signals Around Your Health Challenges Will…
- Strengthen Your Inner Compass, Self-Awareness & Confidence. When you trust & act in alignment when your intuition tells you that something is or isn’t a smart decision, you build a deep trust within yourself. You’ll have full confidence that you KNOW yourself.
- Provide Inner Peace. When you have full confidence that you can listen and detect signals from your body, it gives you a sense of inner peace that you will know your limit and when to stop before an episode or flare-up happens.
- Prevent Flare-Ups, Fatigue & Pain. As you listen deeply to your body’s signals, you can detect early on what you need to do or stop doing. Then you can make wise health choices for yourself. By doing this and lessening the amounts of flare-ups, fatigue, pain, or other symptoms, you can be more productive and consistent in your business. This will help your business to grow and to keep your clients happy!
A Personal Story as to WHY learning to listen to your body is so important.
One of the greatest gifts ever given to me came from a most unexpected source. A sales consultant, after a one-hour meeting, would NOT take my money. He saw how I tried to push through our conversation despite intense physical pain. When we were finished, instead of offering to work with me, he pointed to a poster on the wall with a triangle that read “Mind. Body. Spirit.” and said,
“Your mind and your spirit are great, but until you learn how to take care of your body – your health – you are NEVER going to achieve the success you desire.”
WOW! I was not expecting that. It was harsh. But deep down, I knew he was right. This is a moment seared into my memory. It is a gift that led to my discovering how to build a business that was sustainable alongside health challenges. It was a catalyst to a new way of life and to my business success. And for that, I will always be grateful.
It is in this spirit that I share this post. Though it might sound harsh, know that I share it from a place of care. A place of love. If any of this sounds a little familiar, learn more about why it is so important to accept your health challenges, where you are right here and now.
